Job Summary

The Senior Engineer I  Electrical Controls Engineer position is responsible for ensuring the successful day-to-day operation and continuous improvement of various endovascular medical device manufacturing equipment within the Terumo Medical Corporation (TMC) Elkton, MD facility.  In this role, the electrical controls engineer serves as the subject matter expert (SME) for the automated assembly equipment's electrical systems and automation controls.  This individual can operate independently but is capable to leading and coaching others in various tasks. Salaary range: $91,100 - $136,700 based on experience and an 8% target bonus.

Job Details/Responsibilities

1.    Provide electrical engineering/controls expertise in the daily operation and maintenance of production equipment and related business continuity needs. Troubleshoot and develop electrical control systems in automated assembly equipment.
2.    Provide electrical controls engineering leadership and expertise to the identification, execution and implementation of performance and cost reduction continuous improvement opportunities of assigned automated assembly equipment.  Implement manufacturing technology like modern inspection systems, new control technology, and robotics to improve quality, labor efficiency, and throughput.
3.    Comply with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments.  Maintain and follow TMC Quality System requirements; including but not limited to understanding of change control, validation, documentation practices, and design control requirements.
4.    Work with Quality Engineering and Production personnel in the conduct of root cause analyses of process non-conformances and implementation of corrective actions.
5.    Knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers, Motion Controllers, and other automated controls.  Ability to understand machine network configuration and control, including safety controls.
 

Job Responsibilities (continued)

  1. Ability and willingness to teach others regarding electrical controls.
  2. Knowledge and experience with common Test and Measurement Equipment and calibration requirements.
  3. Ability to read and create schematics/drawings.
  4. Hands-on experience using AutoCAD or SolidWorks a plus (electrical package preferred)
  5. Understanding of Electrical Engineering Codes (NFPA 79) and modern safety standards
  6.  Participate in project team meetings in order to provide ideas, methods, or processes for performance improvement.
  7.  Maintain positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors. 
  8. Performs other job related duties assigned.

 

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to design, specify, assemble, and validate complex electrical control systems for assembly equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability in the use of critical thinking, problem solving and analysis.
  • This position requires the ability to solve complex electrical and machine control problems or implement solutions or processes that are novel to production processes and engineering solutions.
  • Incumbent is required to respond to challenging engineering situations and production

          issues.

  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written. 
  • Ability to operate independently or within a team environment.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA)

  • Requires a four-year degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent work experience.
  • 8 or more years of experience with the electrical control systems of automated assembly equipment.
