Job Summary

The Occupational Health Nurse will champion all occupational health programs and policies consistent with local, state, and federal regulations.  Primary responsibilities of this position include hearing conservation, visual acuity, medical surveillance, first aid program, workers compensation and return to work.  This position will also lead, including Interfacing with associates and management, occupational health initiatives to reduce accidents and improve environmental, health, and safety within the organization across multiple facilities.

Job Details/Responsibilities

1.    Manage Early Report of Pain/Symptom by assessing risk, interviewing associates, creating, and managing documentation, and coordinating appropriate follow up actions with our WC and STD carriers.
2.    Provide or coordinate care, treatment, and management of occupational and non-occupational injuries/illnesses. Coordinate management of Workers Compensation cases, and Site Safety for communication of any occupational or potential occupational injuries/illnesses to appropriate parties outside and inside of Terumo.
3.    Monitor and ensure appropriate medical supply inventory is maintained. 
4.    Provide first aid for minor injuries, such as abrasions, superficial lacerations, contusions, foreign bodies in eye, sprains, strains, punctures, splinters, etc. and ascertain the need for further treatment by a physician to minimize the effects of the condition and to decrease the possibility of any long-term disability resulting from said condition.
5.    Act as a Wellness/health champion/coach and/or advisor educating associates on Health & Wellness initiatives, enabling associates to make healthy lifestyle choices.
6.    Be trained to operate the medical testing instrument/equipment (Titmus/Audio) utilized for medical clearance and early detection of baseline changes and implement appropriate referrals and/or follow-up programs.
7.    Maintain associates electronic medical record with appropriate entries for patient assessments, reported signs and symptoms, treatment, referrals, follow-up care and education regarding associates medical condition.

8.    Makes recommendations for and provide immunizations in accordance with immunization practices prescribed by Center for Disease Control, job requirement, and physician's guidance
9.    Willing to be trained to teach first aid, CPR, and AED certification classes.
10.    Serve as a member of the Emergency Response Team and be available for on-call response.
11.    As part of EHS team be responsible for incident/root cause investigation for injuries and illnesses
12.    Understand and work within the quality systems, following FDA and applicable 
regulations as required. 
13.    Available for call and work during off-hours with minimal notices as needed.
14.    Available for travel as needed.
15.    Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA)

    • Deep subject matter expertise in Occupational Health matters and demonstrated track record in conceptualizing, launching and administering Health & Wellness initiatives
    • Strong communication skills and ability to influence associates and management as well as interface with external agencies.
    • Proficient user of Microsoft Office software and experience with online reporting and analytical and statistical tools.
    • Ability to set up and work within an organized, document-controlled environment.
    • Ability to handle highly sensitive information, including Protected Health Information (PHI) in a confidential manner strictly adhering to legal and Company policy requirements. 
    • Knowledge of OSHA, DOL, MOSH, Workers Compensation and other related compliance requirements.

 

Qualifications/ Background Experiences

    • Requires an RN with board certification and 2 years of related occupational health experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Active 40-hour Hazwoper certification
