Job Summary

The primary role of the Automation Technician is to provide Automation, robotics, Controls and Mechanical support to manufacturing equipment’s and new technologies in the Plant or supplier’s facilities. The Automation Technician shall assist, identify, troubleshoot, and repair complex break down/ Malfunctions that occur in Manufacturing Equipment and processes. Shall be able to run tests, isolate problems, replace faulty devices and implement new technologies in the Manufacturing Floor that will help in the performance of the Manufacturing Equipment. 

Job Details/Responsibilities

  • Assist in the fabrication, assembly, and electromechanical integration of new/improved manufacturing system.
  • Make repairs to robots or peripheral equipment, such as replacement of defective circuit boards, sensors, controllers, encoders or servomotors.
  • Integrate software and hardware, implement systems and process modifications.
  • Install electrical components and wiring.
  • Install, program or repair programmable controllers, robot controllers, end-of-arm tools or conveyors.
  • Modify computer-controlled robot movements.
  • Test and troubleshooting new integrations or modifications to ensure all devices are working properly and safely.
  • Prepare wiring sketch/diagrams, circuit board assembly diagrams, and layout sketches used for the manufacture, installation, or repair of electrical/electronic equipment.
  • Understands how to read and translate the information found within PLC code, Schematic wiring, Ladder and P&ID process diagrams.
  • Support in design, fabrication, and startup of automated production equipment.
  • Support in the installation of new robotic systems.
  • Support to program robotic systems.
  • Troubleshoot and evaluate new and existing automated manufacturing equipment/ system.
  • Assist in the documentation to established procedures/visual aids, used for troubleshooting, and repairing manufacturing equipment.
  • Inspect equipment to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
  • Ensure compliance with all Terumo procedures and all applicable regulatory agency requirements.
  • Provide technical support to engineers in Validations and Qualification activities of new and existien equipment.
  • Contribute to a positive work environment by fostering open communication, teamwork, and commitment to excellence.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA)

  • Knowledge in basic and industrial electricity.
  • Knowledge with wiring troubleshooting, programming ladder logic in PLC (Allen Bradly, Omron, Siemens).
  • Knowledge reading and interpreting assembly drawings, schematics, and instructions as well as test procedures.
  • Experience with   MS Office, Word, Visio, Power Point and Excel.
  • Knowledge with HMI, VFD’s, Servo, Sensors (digitals and analogs), Instrumentation, and industrial control systems.
  • Knowledge with troubleshooting and programming vision systems (Cognex, Keyence, Omron, preferred).
  • Experience with installation and testing of electrical components and wiring systems.
  • Preferred knowledge of data network, switches, routers, and servers.
  • Basic using / updating CMMS system, preferred.
  • Good electro-mechanical aptitude, manual dexterity, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to translate and explain what information means and how it canbe used.
  • Use hand and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials and manipulating things.
  • Perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and move the whole body such climb, lift, balance, walk, stop and handle materials.
  • Intermediate math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide and rounding).
  • Keep up-to-date technically and apply new technologies to the work.Bilingual (English and Spanish) and willing to travel.

Qualifications/ Background Experiences

  • Associate degree in electronic, Industrial Maintenance or related field with minimum of 1 year of experience in automation and fabrication/integration of manufacturing equipment.
  • Experience in regulated industry, preferred.
