MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB AND OBJECTIVES

Be able to use appropriate machine shop equipment (lathe, mill, grinder, etc.) to create high quality, tight tolerance precision parts from engineering drawings that meet specifications and that are to be used in medical devices. Have machining experience and familiarity with different materials (stainless steel, plastics, and other metals) and their machining properties and characteristics. Ability to discuss parts and tool designs with R & D personnel and suggest materials and design features to accomplish functional goals of components. Ability to recommend and procure machine shop tools and equipment as needed. Could adhere to quality standards and create parts that have full material traceability.

KEY DUTIES
|
- Use appropriate machine shop equipment to manufacture components from engineering drawings that meet specifications.
- Read engineering drawings and use necessary measuring devices to make or modify existing components or tooling.
- Make sure tools are sharpened and tool holders in good working condition before being placed back on shelf or in tool drawers. Repair or requisition replacement parts, tooling or hardware as needed to maintain adequate stock.
- Set-up and operate all machine shop equipment for specific jobs. These include lathe, mill, grinder, etc.
- Must be able to understand and perform to quality standards, methods, usage of inspection devices and reporting as required.
- To maintain proper housekeeping and safety standards, ie: Proper use of personal protective equipment
- Proper use of safety devices, such as lock-out, as required.
- Actively participate in department/shift/team meetings

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
|
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Demonstrated ability to communicate orally or in written form effectively with co-workers, departments, Supervision, preferably customers and vendors as well.
- Demonstrated ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to interpret bar graphs (for example: SPC)
- With minimal supervision, demonstrate the ability to solve practical problems, interpret, resolving problems and issues using a variety of instructions or guides furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- GED or High School education preferred. Minimal three years precision machining, tool making experience or equivalent education/experience required.
- Journeyman card preferred.
- Lockout Certification
